This week's fishing report is courtesy of Captain John Oravec from Tight Lines Charters:
It's been a windy week on Lake Ontario off the Orleans County NY Coastline. That being said, the fish holding thermocline is yoyoing between 30' to over 100' down. Both inshore structure, mid water and offshore has a mixed bag catch available. King salmon with browns inside of 100' – kings and steelhead out to 500' – the bite is good. Flasher/fly and spoons are doin' it but trout species are favoring spoons. One note: the spiny water flea bloom is in progress so rig your rods with 30-50# mono on riggers and be prepared to check rods often.
All our boat ramps are open. Breakfast is available at Boone & Crocketts Riverside Cafe at Ernst's Lake Breeze Marina. My anglers have been relaying positive feedback from restaurants from the Point thru Albion and Medina. We are in the high season for visiting fisherman so go to this site to find lodging. Special note: we now have a 58 room hotel in Medina, Comfort Inn & Suites. A recent charter group from Cleveland, Ohio completely enjoyed a terrific stay in Medina – along with great dining too.
Orleans County has the total package and the Big Fish! See you on the water!
