The canal side village of Albion is the county seat and is known for it's 34 architecturally significant structures surrounding Courthouse Square. In the center of the Square is the  1858 Greek Revival style domed County Courthouse. Albion boasts an impressive 65 structures listed in the New York State & National Registers of Historic Places. 

The Canalside Park offers boat docking facilities and a landscaped park for watching the lift bridge operations. The Strawberry Festival in June is one of the highlights of the community as well as the Wednesday night summer concert series.

Courthouse Square Historic District

In the heart of Albion, the county seat, stands the 1858 Greek Revival Style dome County Courthouse and the 1882 County Clerk’s Building, surrounded by 34 architecturally significant structures. Seven churches face the square, one of which was built in 1894 by George M. Pullman. Group tours by appointment.

Gaines Basin Road Cobblestone Schoolhouse3286 Gaines Basin Rd, Albion (just north of the Erie Canal). New to the National Register of Historic Places is an original one-room cobblestone schoolhouse built in 1832 and last used in 1944. The Orleans County Historical Society recently completed renovations and it’s used as a meeting house.

Daughters of the American, Revolution, Orleans Chapter

249 North Main Street, Albion. This pre-Civil War/Greek Revival residence was converted to a DAR Chapter house with a local history museum and library containing historical documents and articles depicting early Orleans County life. Named to the National Registry of Historic Places. Tours by appointment.

Mount Albion Cemetery Rte 31E, Albion 
Sitting on over 75 acres of land, this 1840s rural cemetery’s charm is enhanced by handsome trees, terraced hillsides and rolling terrain. Its notable highlights include the Soldiers and Sailors Monument — a local Civil War memorial that you can climb to the top of, a chapel and entrance arch. 

Pratt Event Center 118 North Main St., Albion
The 1882 Pratt Theater is on the 3rd floor of the building and is used for events. The 1882 Grand Army of the Republic Room on the 3rd floor of 114 North Main St. contains original murals from post-Civil War and is available as a conference center. By appointment

Pullman Universalist Church
East Park St., Albion (corner of N. Main St.)
George Pullman (1831-1897), noted industrialist, was once a resident of Albion and later became the manufacturer of Pullman Railroad Cars. One of his local legacies is the Pullman Memorial Universalist Church in Albion, which he built in 1894 to honor his parents’ memory. Includes several famed Tiffany Stained glass windows.
