Medina Triennial Hub

About

The Hub will serve as the year-round home of the Medina Triennial, a new contemporary art event coming to the village next summer (June–September 2026). But long before the big debut, the Hub itself will be alive every weekend with artist talks, workshops, film screenings, and hands-on programs that invite residents to participate directly.

Designed in collaboration with students and faculty from the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning, the Hub features custom-built furniture made from reclaimed Erie Canal wood—tables, chairs, and benches crafted to last and to be used by the community. “We hope this work invites all of us to take care of the spaces and objects that we visit, share, and love,” said the design team, Serweta Peck.

The  Floating Garden, an ambitious new commission by internationally known ecological artist Mary Mattingly, will work with local groups to transform a barge on the Erie Canal into a mobile orchard and garden. Beginning this fall, the barge will become a living artwork and educational space with workshops on water, soil, food, and climate resilience.

With more than 15 weekends of events planned between now and September 2026, the Hub is poised to become Medina’s new gathering place—somewhere to sit down together, celebrate the region’s creativity, and look ahead to the Triennial’s first edition next summer.
